Sancho in Talks Over Deadline Day Move to Aston Villa as United Target Martinez

Manchester United are in advanced discussions with Aston Villa over a potential transfer involving winger Jadon Sancho. The deal, reported on deadline day, could also see United pursue Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Sancho, 25, has been on United’s list of outgoings after returning from loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea. Despite interest from Roma earlier in the window, the forward rejected a move to Italy. He remains among United’s highest earners, with a reported weekly wage of ÂŁ250,000, making his departure a priority for the club.
Villa manager Unai Emery is seeking attacking reinforcements after his team failed to register a Premier League goal so far this season. Sancho, signed by United for ÂŁ73 million in 2022, is seen as a player who could revive form under Emeryâs system.
Over the past 18 months, Sancho featured on loan first at Dortmund during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign and then at Chelsea for the 2024/25 season. His struggles at Old Trafford have been attributed to inconsistency and clashes with managerial staff.
Emery has a track record of reviving careers, notably bringing Marcus Rashford on loan last season when the England international was sidelined at United. Sources suggest he views Sancho as a similar opportunity to add creativity and depth to his squad.
Meanwhile, Unitedâs interest in Emiliano Martinez reflects their strategy to strengthen in goalkeeping options. Martinez, a key figure for Villa and Argentinaâs World Cup-winning team, has drawn consistent praise for his performances. His acquisition would provide competition and experience at Old Trafford.
Negotiations remain ongoing, and no agreement has yet been finalized. Both clubs are working against the transfer deadline to reach a decision.
