N300bn loan: Oyo Assembly brands APC’s Shittu absentee lawmaker

One of their colleagues, Ibraheem Shittu, has been referred to as an absentee lawmaker by lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Shittu hardly ever shows up for plenary sessions, the MPs observed.

Sanjo Adedoyin, the majority leader, and Waheed Akintayo, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs, and ICT, jointly signed the statement in which they made these claims.

Reporters were given access to the statement on Thursday in the state capital of Ibadan.

Oyo Assembly brands APC’s Shittu absentee lawmaker

On Wednesday, Shittu, who runs for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and represents Saki West State Constituency, expressed concern that the Assembly had covertly authorized a 300 billion naira loan for Governor Seyi Makinde.

According to the APC lawmaker, he was not made aware of the meeting.

According to Shittu’s statement, which reporters were able to get, the loan was authorized during the members’ recess.

However, in their joint statement, Adedoyin and Akintayo characterized Shittu’s assertions as deceptive.

Members of the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the pair claimed that Shittu’s alarm demonstrated his total disengagement from his legislative duties.

They characterized the APC lawmaker as a politician who hardly shows up for plenaries.

They maintained that Shittu is the least involved member of the 10th Assembly and that his attendance at plenary sessions is low in comparison to others.

The Assembly claimed in the statement that the APC lawmaker had compromised the legislative mandate assigned to him and failed his constituents.

He was absent from all prior oversight responsibilities and committee assignments, where his contributions were either nonexistent or immaterial, the statement reads.

In their conclusion, they suggested that he focus his efforts on being a useful lawmaker.
