How To Make Your Bathroom Smell Good

A while ago I walked into my husband’s bathroom and I just wasn’t loving the smell. Not that there was anything bad or gross in there, but it just needed to be smelling more like a spa. Am I right?

So in this post I want to share with you how I whipped that whole situation into shape and how easy it was. Now, it’s smelling like the Mandarin Oriental and is totally dialed in, no matter what goes on in there.

The thing is, I want to love every detail of my house. My life and work is so chatoic that when I’m at home I want to feel relaxed and zen and peaceful. So every.little.thing. matters. Right down to the bathmat.

How To Make Your Bathroom Smell Good

Make your whole house a vibe.

Let’s set up the foundation of the whole house first, and then let it carry over to the bathroom. You do this by making the best homemade potpourri. My stepmom taught me this and all you do is take a small pot, fill it with water, orange slices and cinnamon sticks and let it simmer.

It’s easy, non-toxic and sets the best vibe throughout your whole house. A little better for winter/cozy weather but works all year around, really.

Poo~Pourri.

We can’t forget about the actual toilet. Poo~Pourri should be in every single bathroom in the world.

You basically just spritz it into the toilet bowl before-you-go. The spray is a pure blend of NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS that creates a film on the surface of the water.

The protective barrier traps the bad odors under the surface, before it ever begins! I MEAN!!! All you’ll smell is a refreshing bouquet of natural essential oils. I love preventative measure.

Branch Basics cleaning products.

This is my favorite brand of cleaning products (use code SKINNY for 15% off) because they’re all natural and you need to make sure your bathroom is clean to make it smell good.

The brand is family-owned and all their products are non-toxic. The family’s entire health journey really interesting actually. They are living proof that switching to a clean, chemical-free lifestyle can do wonders for your health. Be sure to check out their products.

Candles.

Because always candles. However I think a lot of us know now that certain wicks from candles are full of nasty stuff, even if they say non-toxic. That’s why we made The Skinny Confidential candle with a 100% cotton wick, pure soy wax and eucalyptus essential oil. It isn’t just a candle, it’s a better choice. You can learn more here.

Other Ideas:

+ get yourself the best bathmat in the world to keep things clean and looking chic.

Tips for a bathroom that feels like a luxurious spa:

Swap out old shower curtains often. Fabric and plastic curtains can trap moisture and cause unpleasant odors. A fresh curtain instantly makes the space smell nice and look chic.

Upgrade your toilet paper storage. Keep rolls in a lidded basket with a sachet of lavender or eucalyptus tucked inside. Every time you reach for a roll, the air will smell fresh.

Eliminate bad smells before they start. Wipe down walls and tiles weekly with a vinegar-water solution. Bathrooms hold on to hidden buildup that creates bad smells over time.

Add greenery. Plants like peace lilies and ferns naturally filter air and make your bathroom smell fresh while giving it that calming, home spa vibe.

Rotate scents seasonally. Think mint or citrus for summer, and cedar or vanilla for winter. Switching it up keeps your bathroom feeling like a new, luxurious spa each season.
