Grealish Marks Everton Debut with Two Assists in Hill Dickinson Stadium Opener

Jack Grealish played a pivotal role in Everton’s 2-0 victory over Brighton, marking the official opening of Hill Dickinson Stadium with two assists. The performance reinforced his impact after joining on loan from Manchester City.
Grealish, wearing Everton’s iconic No.18 shirt previously worn by Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, set up Iliman Ndiaye for the club’s first Premier League goal at their new Ā£750 million ground. Within 23 minutes, his low cross was converted by Ndiaye, who had also scored both goals in Everton’s final game at Goodison Park in May.
The 29-year-old then doubled his tally by providing the pass for James Garner’s 25-yard strike, sealing Everton’s win. These two contributions matched his total goal involvements from the previous 31 league appearances, highlighting a notable return to form.
His display made him only the second Everton player to register two assists on his Premier League debut for the club, following Lucas Neill in 2009. Grealish was substituted in stoppage time to a standing ovation, marking an early bond with Everton supporters.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Grealish described the moment as “massive” for both himself and the team. “Our first game at the new stadium, and we wanted to put on a show for the supporters,” he said. He added that his decision to join Everton followed discussions with manager David Moyes, who assured him of a central role in the squad.
Grealish also revealed his influence in team tactics, noting that his first on-pitch partnership with Ndiaye came directly in the fixture against Brighton. “I said yesterday that the manager hadn’t played us together in training. Today is the first time,” he stated.
The performance drew attention from former Aston Villa teammate Gabby Agbonlahor, who argued Everton could become a more formidable opponent with Grealish in their lineup. Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor emphasized that Moyes’s decision to give Grealish a consistent starting role could unlock his full potential.
Everton’s win not only provided a triumphant start at their new home but also signaled fresh attacking options as the club adapts to life at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
