Elderly Woman Killed in Recycling Lorry Collision in Llandudno

An 89-year-old woman has died after being struck by a recycling lorry in Llandudno, Conwy county, North Wales, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred at approximately 09:00 BST on Monday on Brookes Street near Caroline Road. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were deployed but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Wales Police stated that a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Sgt Duncan Logan, speaking on behalf of the force, said: “The lady’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers, and our thoughts and sympathies are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.” The police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Conwy council confirmed that one of its recycling vehicles was involved in the crash. A spokesperson expressed condolences, saying the authority’s thoughts were with the victim’s family.

This incident follows previous fatal collisions in Wales involving waste collection vehicles, which have raised safety concerns in residential areas. Authorities continue to review operational safety measures while the police investigation into this case is ongoing.
