Christian McCaffrey injury news: 49ers RB lands on Thursday injury report with calf issue

The San Francisco 49ers listed Christian McCaffrey as a limited participant on Thursday’s injury report with a calf injury, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. McCaffrey has a history with calf problems, but Achilles tendinitis is what kept him out for the bulk of the 2024 season. But, this is yet another lower leg injury, which has plagued McCaffrey of late.

At this point, we are waiting for more information on the injury. The team could just being extra cautious or he could have suffered a significant injury in practice, being forced to leave. We will know more sooner than later, as we’ll know if he returns to practice on Friday or not.

If the injury is something that will keep him out of the Week 1 game against the Seahawks, then Robinson quickly becomes a must start and must add fantasy player. This injury scare is also a good reason to pick up Robinson, as we know how well 49ers running backs produce. Even if McCaffrey is fine and plays this week, there’s plenty of reason to worry about his ability to play 17 games.

Guerendo was usurped when the 49ers signed Robinson late in preseason, but his skill set is different than Robinson’s and he would likely share some work as a receiver behind the ex-Commander. Both should be rostered on teams with deeper rosters and Robinson should be rostered on almost all 12 team rosters,
