Anthony Gordon Sends Farewell Message as Alexander Isak Joins Liverpool in £125m Deal

Liverpool have signed Sweden international Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British record transfer worth £125 million, finalised on deadline day. The move marks one of the most significant deals in Premier League history and ends weeks of speculation surrounding the striker’s future.
Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, refused to play for Eddie Howe’s side during the summer, training separately from the first team. He did not feature in Newcastle’s opening three Premier League matches this season.
In its official statement, Newcastle confirmed the sale, describing it as a “significant British record transfer fee.” Isak made 109 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Despite the tense circumstances, Newcastle teammates offered public tributes. Midfielder Anthony Gordon wrote on Instagram, “Regardless of the situation and what’s gone on. It’s been a pleasure to play with you. One of the best chemistries I’ve had on the pitch and more importantly a great person and teammate. I wish you nothing but the best, brother.”

Defender Sven Botman also shared a farewell message: “We started off as teammates, grown in one of my rare best friendships. No more words needed brother, all the best in your next chapter.”
In his first comments as a Liverpool player, Isak stressed his focus on the future. “I want to win trophies. That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level,” he said.
“It has been a long summer but I’m just looking forward, not looking at the past. It’s done now and I know I can get back to doing what I love the most. Really looking forward to it.”
The 25-year-old joins Liverpool as they aim to defend their Premier League title. His arrival adds to the club’s attacking options, and his transfer fee surpasses previous records for a player moving to a British club.
