Jennifer Lawrence to Receive San Sebastian Film Festival’s Donostia Award

Jennifer Lawrence will be honored with the prestigious Donostia Award at the 2025 San Sebastian Film Festival. The Oscar-winning actress will accept the accolade on Friday, September 26, at the Kursaal Auditorium in Spain. The ceremony will be followed by the screening of her new film Die My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay.
The film, which premiered earlier this year at Cannes, stars Lawrence alongside Robert Pattinson, LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, and Sissy Spacek. Its San Sebastian screening will mark the Spanish debut of the project, adding to the festival’s high-profile lineup.
Lawrence’s career spans critically acclaimed performances across multiple genres. She won the Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook in 2012 and received further recognition for American Hustle, Joy, Don’t Look Up, and The Hunger Games franchise. In 2018, she co-founded the production company Excellent Cadaver with producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi, delivering films and documentaries such as Causeway, No Hard Feelings, Zurawski v. Texas, and Bread & Roses.
Festival organizers praised Lawrence as one of the defining talents of her generation, citing her ability to combine commercial success with artistic credibility. Previous recipients of the Donostia Award include Cate Blanchett, Denzel Washington, Marion Cotillard, Pedro Almodóvar, David Cronenberg, Johnny Depp, and Ethan Hawke.
This year’s San Sebastian lineup will also showcase high-profile premieres including Saoirse Ronan’s Bad Apples, Tessa Thompson’s Hedda, Angelina Jolie’s Couture, Edward Berger’s Ballad of a Small Player starring Colin Farrell, and Juliette Binoche’s directorial debut. The inclusion of Die My Love and Lawrence’s recognition reinforce the festival’s position as a leading global platform for cinema.
The Donostia Award gala and film premiere are expected to be highlights of the festival, attracting international press, industry leaders, and global audiences eager to celebrate Lawrence’s contribution to contemporary cinema.
